At the end of July, ice cream industry giant Klondike announced it would discontinue producing the Choco Taco, much to the dismay of the beloved novelty’s fans. St. Louis residents need not despair, however; two local ice cream businesses are putting their own spin on the popular treat.
Sugarwitch, known for its inventive, scratchmade ice cream sandwiches, is offering its own take on the Choco Taco for a limited time. It features a homemade waffle taco, bittersweet chocolate shell, vanilla ice cream and salted peanuts. After opening the preorder option for the product last weekend, Sugarwitch sold out almost immediately. Be sure to stop by its Airstream trailer on the Olio patio on the early side on the weekend to score one of the coveted treats for yourself.
Two well-known vegan brands have collaborated to offer their plant-based version of the treat. Wandering Yeti and Terror Tacos will be offering gluten-free, vegan Choco Tacos throughout the day on August 10. Stop by Terror Taco’s storefront on South Grand to grab one. The pair is also collaborating on an Aztec hot chocolate ice cream (a spicy chocolate base with a ribbon of marshmallow cream).
